It is possible that is the intended rule. However, the literal reading of the rules does suggest you get a different type of battle dependent on the re-roll.
I would be quite happy to read it as the orinial roll determines the type of battle and the re-roll only determines the attacker and defender.

Re: Opportunity Fire
Thanks, that is how we played it.
I played Adrian yesterday. We used the changes to be played at the Poitier event. I have to say that I really like all those changes.
I think the change to the 'hold order' area is a very clever idea. Congratulations to whoever thought of that one!

Opportunity Fire
If an artillery battery has an opportunity target, can it fire at this target if there is another target with a higher priority it could fire at in its own activation? In today's game an artillery battery had a formed unit directly ahead. An enemy battery unlimbered at the side of the formed unit. W...

Forming Squares
This was discussed at Britcon, but it came up again in today's game and it was suggested we ask a larger audience. First, if your army can form full squares, can you opt to form a column square instead? Second, if your infantry are only permitted to form a full square, what happens if you have not l...

Re: Alternative Army List Program
My collegue Adrian is heading to Poitier for the tournament to try the new rule changes. I have added the new points costs to the army list program. There are two xml files that have changed. I have renamed the others '...original.xml'. Unfortunately any saved lists will not automatically update wit...

Re: attack orders for infantry in line formation
This is consistent with the other question on fulfilling attack orders. So long as one of the conditions has been met, the unit counts as attacking.

Re: cavalry countercharge and 45 degree arc
That is not clear in the rules. We have played the original suggestion. The counter charge option is made when the enemy is at half distance or 4UD. The rules state 'a counter-charge is like a charge'. We apply the rules as meaning the unit must fulfil the conditions of charging to be able to counte...

Re: attack orders
We would say yes to all these. I see the reasoning for the 'attack' order being about getting to close with the enemy. If a unit is charging, ending up in a position to volley fire or enemy cavalry has prevented it then it has fulfilled the requirement to be attacking.
