In my opinion they have to continue with their engage order so must advance. I don't see how they can be opportunity charged because they can stop when they get within 3 UD of the French guns. Also, don't the dragoons have to be able to see them to charge them?

A formation change can be made before, after or during movement. If you move before the change you move at the speed of the original formation, make the change and then if you have any move left it is at the speed of the new formation. So the short answer is yes, class B infantry in column can move ...

This appears to be correct to me taking the rules as written but I suspect that the intention of opportunity fire is to allow you to fire after the other player has completed his movement only if you don't find yourself in a fire combat with another unit shooting at you and you returning fire on tha...

I don't think that artillery can prep fire and move. After it fires the artillery receives an action marker having completed the prep fire action, which coms before movement. On page 29 of the rules it states that artillery with an action marker may not move (but may flee).

Thanks for the reply. I haven’t found the priority to be a problem in a game yet, it just doesn’t seem logical. I would tend to go for something like fire at the target in the closest range band, choosing the target straight in front if there is one in that band or the nearest otherwise,

The firing priorities seem a little strange as described in the English version of the rules. Given that priority is given to the nearest unit amongst those directly to the front before those not directly to the front this suggests that an artillery unit with a target directly in front of it at long...
