Re: Firing through unformed units

Is the rule pertaining to Artillery shooting through enemy skirmishers there to cover the close range mandatory fire rule for artillery? Thus placing a skirmish screen in front of an enemy battery (at close range) will not force the battery to fire on the skirmishers ignoring all else. It may instea...

Yes, had it not been for the forum I would still be playing it wrong today.

Re: Firing through unformed units

Don best take that up with Hervé as he writes under the firing priorities post. (Sorry said it was in target priorities post stead of Firing priorities in my 1st comment) "You can target an infantry unit that his behind an artillery as it doesn't block visibility or fire. Artillery first target choi...

Re: Firing through unformed units

Not so sure Don (sorry Don)is correct about the "other cases" as this was discussed in another post on target priorities. If firing with Artillery at targets outside canister ranger ie: unlimber artillery (unformed unit) in front of a infantry line (formed unit). you must target the infantry unit be...

Re: Spanish Brigade squares

Sorry Don I don't think I've miss quoted anything " A reaction may also occur if an enemy unit charges another friendly unit within 2UD's" that's word for word out of the rule book on page 46 and yes it is not a reaction to being charged it is a reaction to a friendly unit within 2UD being charged. ...

Re: Spanish Brigade squares

I understand single Spanish battalions can't form full squares. Column square won't save you if you are charged in the flank as column squares have flanks therefore no combat/formation bonuses apply. In charge reactions you can only change formation or orientation so you couldn't form a column squar...

Re: Spanish Brigade squares

Thanks for replying but your statement didn't really clear anything up for me. I have read page 156. What happens when for example a unit of French dragoons charges a Spanish infantry battalion in the flank and it has friends within 2UD behind it? No point in trying to form column square as you will...

Spanish Brigade squares

I take it Spanish battalions may only form column square as a reaction to a cavalry charge and not a brigade square (made from 2x battalions) :?:

Re: 28mm basing questions

Hi Olaf My 28's are all based on 50/50mm squares with 4 bases equaling a medium sized unit. So I should be using 100mm per UD which doesn't really work moment wise on a 2400/1800mm table (8/6 foot). I currently messing around with 70mm UD's which gives me a bit more maneuver room on the table.

Re: Firing Priorities

What happens when the closest frontal target is a battery with a infantry line behind it (to give it Flank support). The battery is not a formed target, so does the battery block the shot on the line and therefore you must choose another formed unit in the firing batteries fire arc? Or do you just t...
