Re: Good Shooter

Depends really how you think poor musketry should impact shock. I'd be inclined to the +/- 2 option as it would support shock combat being morale and fire more than the actual bayonet, and troops who were markedly better (or worse) would thus have more impact, either shooting more of the attackers o...

Re: Engage orders

Hi Roger My reading FWIW is that the basic rules for an engage order are that at least half the units must advance. This should be towards enemy or objective. The next sentences clarify what they can do, Cavalry can charge but may halt at tactical distance. Infantry ay shoot at volley or skirmish. T...

Re: Reserves

So would a fair summary be: Up to half (rounded down) of divisions may have the reserve order. In Battle these may be held off table and come on from turn 2 onwards at player discretion In Encounter up to half the divisions may have the reserve order, but must be brought on in turn 2 or 3 as per p74...

Reserves

Hi All Question re reserves. In a battle you can put a division into reserve and bring it on as desired. What about Encounter and Assault? In Encounter can you designate the "2nd" or "3rd" division as reserve and keep it off table for instance? In assault, as long as you have 1/3 of your forces off ...

Re: Battalion Guns and Skirmishing

IIRC last time this came up (in reference to Grenzers) the consensus was that the guns remained with the HQ and other elements of the unit and re-appeared when the unit reformed, as currently skirmishing isn't a ground to lose them.

Re: Do disordered units still deduct movement cost

Not sure it is helpful but we've been saying that they retain the facing and similar rules, so if they want to retreat its pay for the turn and go back. Also means that you can hit the flank or rear which is painful when it happens (or fun if you are the attacker)

Irregular cavalry

Just a quick one - the rules describe irregular cavalry (Cossacks etc) as being dispersed as per SK or artillery; would this therefore mean that if you shoot them you get a -2 unless using skirmish fires, as per shooting artillery or detached skirmishers?

Re: Battalion guns for light infantry

How do

On the FB group we came to a working conclusion that they probably re-appear when the unit reforms as skirmishing isn't listed as one of the reasons for losing the guns.

Of course nothing official but it seemed to make sense.

Re: Army List Reserves

Also note - from the french side of the forum - that reserves may be allocated at deployment by the CinC in excess of division size; so a CinC with 2 slots spare may yank a unit from one division and allocate to another to reinforce it.
