Are Cossacks disordered after winning shock combat

Message par Viking709 » sam. 9 janv. 2021 21:09

After beating an I1 with I2 Cossack. The Cossack suffered 1 UD and advanced 1
Do they also suffer disorder
We decided no as the rules state Cossacks are never disordered but it seemed strange

That is a really good question. If they don't, they have a big advantage over regular cavalry which will be disordered, win or lose, after a combat. I'll be interested to hear what the consensus of the community might be.

If I read correctly, the disorder for a pursuing unit occurs at the end of any pursuit and a resulting combat.
Page 23 states that irregular cavalry flee instead of becoming disordered. There do not seem to be any exceptions.
If the irregulars do not pursue they do not have a cause of disorder. If they pursue, I presume they flee as soon as the pursuit is completed. Seems reasonable for irregular cavalry. They charge in, pursue the enemy, then rapidly retire.

Hi all,

in France, Cossack could never be disordered..

see FAQ p 4 ..
Ils ne passent jamais en Désordre suite d’une fuite ou un résultat de combat. On a donc pas besoin de les rallier

They never go into Disorder as a result of a flight or a result of combat. So we don't need to rally them

Regards.

Agreed, they do not have to rally. The point from page 23 is that something that would cause them to be disordered makes them flee instead.

Hey Roger
I agree and makes sense. They flee instead of becoming disordered

Hi all,

in France we don't play it like that.

Cossacks flee only when they failed moral's test due to fire for example as the result said they must become disordered.

In melee they never become disordered so they don't have to flee at the end of the pursuit.

I agree it's a little bit confuse but for me it make no sense to flee after pursuiting.

I think it is quite reasonable. I can easily imagine irregulars charging in, pursuing then dashing back again, not risking being caught.
As always, 'reasonable' is a personal view 😁.
What may be more difficult is the reading of the rules. The English like to play to the letter of the law. If the rules say that irregulars flee instead of becoming disordered, that is what we want to play.
Given the current travel issues we are unlikely to be playing internationally, so plenty of time to sort this out.
