Retreating, Fleeing and routing

Message par Adrian Steer » mer. 29 juin 2022 10:37

Looking at the above these appear to have different effects on troops < 1UD behind them in combat than for other reasons such a cohesion points dropping to zero ( routing) and failing a moral test ( retreat or fleeing) in that troops can become disordered as a result of combat results but not for other causes. Is this correct and what Herve intended? Some discussion has taken place in the past but it would be good to get a ruling on this for the future and so I can give correct rulings at Britcon. :)

Ideally the next version of the rules could be structured differently.
Retreating would be a rule section, fleeing another etc.
Describing fleeing in both charge response and shock outcomes is not helpful.
Passage of lines needs to distinguish between a voluntary passage, when there is room to clear the unit and compulsory passage when a unit flees or retreats due to these causes needs to be clear.
It may be the English translation, but the use of 'routed' to describe losing all cohesion and 'rout' to describe a specific shock combat result is not helpful.
