I think I have this right but desire confirmation.
A unit making a formation change at the beginning of a charge move must be beyond tactical distance (i.e. 4 UD) of the enemy to do so.
A unit making a formation change in any other circumstance can do so freely (apart from the CP expenditure) as long as it is beyond 2 UD of infantry and/or 4 UD of cavalry. If within these distances the unit additionally must pass a maneuver test (and successfully change formation) or fail the test and suffer disorder (and not change formation).
Have I got this right?

Hi Viperofmilan
And you can also make an formation change as a reaction if you are charged. In this case , you must pass a test to keep in order.

The test is mandatory only if the ennemis units make an opportunity charge. If within the 2 UD of an infantry with an action marker, there is no issue to make a formation change. p38viperofmilan a écrit : ↑mer. 3 mars 2021 12:27
