Reinforcement/Reserve Entry

Message par knightfast » mer. 16 févr. 2022 10:51

Some belated queries arising from Whiff of Grapeshot.

When Reinforcements or reserves enter the table how do they enter and what can they do?
In specific:
An order marker is placed on table edge (freely for reserve but in a sector for reinforcements), and from our reading at least one unit must enter via that marker. Up to one may enter either side - but how far away?
Can I enter a division on the left and bring in a unit on the left but another in the right sector?
Or do they need to remain in sector if reinforcements?
When they enter must they move straight ahead or can they come in at angles?
They can charge on, but if the enemy flees and a control test is passed do they enter? Or are they retained off table for next turn?
What happens if the other player has a unit on the table edge, can it be charged frontally (if it has for example just taken a line of communication)? If so where does the combat take place?
If they are charging a unit on table how far away are they? If I have a unit 3UD from entry point charged by cavalry is that cavalry within 4UD or not? or is it over 6UD on principle?

Thanks in advance
Huw

We have not met those problems, but I can see they are all possible!
We allow the units to the side of the marker to be any distance. Depending on where the general enters there could be command distance and group issues.
We assume movement from the edge as though the unit was lined up there just off table and measure charges from the table edge. I would not object to the entry being at an angle or wheeling if required. If enemy are on the edge I suppose moving them back to make room makes most sense.
Presumably withdrawal after a charge would be to the table edge.

I suspect this is something that would take a lot of rules to cover fully. It is not something we have ever had an issue with and would probably accept an umpire ruling as to what seemed most reasonable.

Except that you can't enter at tactical distance of a enemy: third point page 68 up left. So any charge will be at more than 4 UD.

the 4th point indicates that 3 units can enter ( maximum one on each side). The other units enter behind those three. So you've got something like that, moving upward:
unitA_unitB_unitC
unitD_unitE_unitF
unitG_unitH_unitI
...

Since not forbidden, they can enter at an angle.

If they charge and their target flee, and you test-control them? They are placed on the edge of the board.

Hi all

I disagree fdunadan. Only the divisonal marker cannot be place within tactical distance . Units can enter under this distance.

For entering distance one unit on the marker one To the right less than 2 ud and the other one to the left less than 2 ud. Entery in groups .

I believe El Kreator stated this at some point on the forum.

Hello

When a unit enter on the table, it start its movement from the table edge.
It can enter with an angle (up to 90°).
It is not restricted to its entry sector and can move freely.
If is charges, it starts from the table edge and move half distance from its target.

I note to precise these points in the future version. ;)

One further point I played a game this week and a cavalry division that arrived as a reserve split up and headed in two directions ( for 2 pips) is this allowed or do they have to stay as a group as they enter onto the table. I notice you said entry is by groups Olivier what do you mean by this?

It appears artillery and skirmishers cannot move with a charging group, so it would seem reasonable that they would enter in a different group move 🤔.
If the entering division has more than 1 CP how else could they spend it?
