compulsory reserve choices

Message par KeefM » sam. 28 mai 2022 06:41

Every army must have at least 1 cavalry and 1 artillery unit (page 104, right column, 4th bullet)

British lists usually only have artillery as a reserve choice (ie not for Divisions), thereby limiting their reserve choices.

Ditto for cavalry choices only in separate division.

In these cases, can these be placed into Divisions ?

Units from the reserve are not compulsory. You can take a battery in the division lists to get artillery.
Most armies need to take a cavalry division to get the compulsory cavalry.

Why would you not take a light cavalry division? Without some reconnaissance points, the army will be losing the initiative and being subjected to assault battles a lot.

As you say a lot of the British lists don't have artillery already in the divisions so yes you need to use your reserve points to put an artillery battery with one of the divisions. Most British commanders have two reserve points which would allow you to do so, however C in C's are also allowed to keep control of artillery batteries and hence if you do this can use the reserve points to swop other units about between divisions. Light cavalry divisions are worth the points plus you could put a LC unit from the division if you want with an infantry division ( 2pts) which may be useful depending on the circumstances.

As I thought ... that means there are a number of British lists (and maybe others too) that, in effect, are required to take a compulsory artillery choice as a reserve in order to meet army minimums.

Also, with a Brilliant or Competent CnC you only get 2 reserve points to use. If 1 of those goes on your compulsory (required) artillery choice, then you do not have enough left to transfer a unit from one Division to another prior to the game. According to how I read the clarifications, it takes 1 reserve point to take a unit from a Division, and another reserve point to assign it to another Division = 2 points.

That is correct. 3 reserve points would be much more useful!

hi all,

you can also keep the ART with the CIC, (No reserve point used for that and it's very usefull) and use the 2 reserve points to swap an unit from a division to another..
