attack orders

Message par KeefM » sam. 27 août 2022 04:27

On ATTACK orders can an A-class maneuver unit move to volley fire range and change into line in order to comply with its orders ?

Conducting volley fire complies with ATTACK orders.

But the amendments say that changing out of column can only be done in specified circumstances implying that you can't change into line in order to volley fire instead of charging. If so, then ATTACK orders work differently depending on whether you have a linear doctrine only, or if you are permitted deep or linear, mixed, or just deep order tactical doctrines.

As a complicating example, if an A-class unit on ATTACK orders was in square from a previous reaction or cavalry threat, could it then change into line and move to volley range to comply with its ATTACK orders ?

As another example, avoiding a cavalry threat is a valid reason for infantry to not comply with ATTACK orders, so there is the possibility that an infantry unit could stay outside of 4UD of cavalry and make a move and formation change which would comply with ATTACK orders ? In effect, does a full move by infantry that is staying outside of 4UD of cavalry then count as complying with ATTACK orders (eg a B-class unit moves 1/2 move and changes formation while still outside of 4UD of enemy cavalry) ?

If you have infantry units that cannot comply with ATTACK orders due to cavalry threat, are those units still counted in the half needing to comply ? For example, a mixed command on ATTACK orders has 7 units (5 infantry, 2 cavalry), but 4 of the infantry cannot move due to enemy cavalry threat, do all 3 of the remaining units have to make a full move or charge ?

We would say yes to all these. I see the reasoning for the 'attack' order being about getting to close with the enemy. If a unit is charging, ending up in a position to volley fire or enemy cavalry has prevented it then it has fulfilled the requirement to be attacking.
