Time of arrival of flank marches

Message par KeefM » ven. 27 déc. 2019 20:12

Page 81 says that flank marches arrive on turn 2, 3 or 4 depending on the type of battle, but I can't find which turn of arrival applies to which type of battle.

Is it:

A. Turn 2 for Assault, Turn 3 for Encounter, Turn 4 for Battle.

Or:

B. Turn 2 for Battle, Turn 3 for Encounter, Turn 4 for Assault.

Or:

C. Something else (eg entirely over the what the player specifies in his battle plan).

The turn is not specified. (or I have'nt found either...)

From the example, we can deduce that Encounter = turn 3, presumably for attacker or defender, as a representation of the "marche au canon" tactic.

The following are NOT canon, but logical:

In an Assault, 1/3 of the defender is out table and enter on turn 4, therefore mitigating the need of flank march for the defender. He could however try a flank march for an arrival by the side, but at no less time, so turn 4 for defender flank march .
For the attacker, he has prepared his manoeuver, so turn 2 for attacker.

In a Battle, both armies are aware of each other, and the battle is planned, so each should have the same turn of arrival. So say turn 2 for Defender or Attacker.

It's just a proposition; not at all mandatory and expecting an official validation by HöchMeister Hervé of course.

Nice logic !!

And, I guess, remaining Divisions arriving as reinforcements enter on Turn 2 or 3 in an Encounter game, then they could also enter as a Flank March on Turns 2 or 3 but, presumably needing to dice for entry (as per the example on page 81) ?

Possible, or maybe only authorize flank march on turn 3 (test on turn 2), since the unit are not one behind the other, but trying to outflank (and thus being delayed)

Hervé Caille will have to specify.

So, generally you will roll the first dice on turn 1 for arrival on turn 2 (assuming you achieved the six needed).

The arrival turn is modified by type of battle.
If its an encounter your earliest arrival depends on what group the division is in. So if you have 4 divisions and the division flank marching is division 3, then normally that would come on the board on turn 3, therefore as its FM it would roll its first die on turn 2 needing a 6, thereafter a 5 or 6.

Likewise defending an assault , the reserves could enter turn 4 so start rolling turn 3.

cheers

You are right

Turn 2 for a battle with reserve division
Turn 3 for an Encounter
Turn 4 for an Assault when defender reinforcement arrive

:D
