Non Napoleonic Armies.

Message par Banjoman » mar. 14 juil. 2020 23:27

Has anyone tweaked the rules to allow games between non napoleonic armies in the same approximate period and using the same approximate tactics. Three that spring to mind are (a) The Anglo American war of 1812, (b) The wars of independence in South America, and (c) The Sikh Wars. All are colourful and should be playable under the rules.

Currently experimenting with extended periods where the command, tactics and maneuver is still basically Napoleonic with more infantry units SK capable ... cavalry still in use, although more vunerable to firepower, and great advances in artillery.

Advances in small arms firepower look good on paper, but are not that radically different on the battlefield yet for the average infantry unit. Early machine guns are about as effective as Napoleonic rocket batteries :)

- Crimean War
- Franco Prussian War
- Russo Japanese War
- Maybe some early WW1 theatres where it's still about maneuver with a Napoleonic feel. Still shuffling battalions around the field in Divisional formations.

Will be a few months yet till I get around to it though. Should be a tonne of fun :)

Hello Duc d'Brisbane. I am Marshall Elaurant, Dauphin of Adelaide, and another friend here, Paul Edgar, Marquis de McLarenVale, have been playing a bit of BE here in Adelaide with 15mm figures. I have also been painting figures so that we could use it for 25mm as well. Hopefully when this virus calms down and we can travel interstate an Aussie comp might be possible. In the mean time, those who cannot play, paint.

Mon Ami !

From Adelaide originally, came up here for a spot of contracting ... and still here :)

Yeah, its just painting and solo gaming for now - and collecting rules and growing the lead mountain. Be great to pop down to ADL again sooner rather than later and get some gaming in.

Im keeping an eye on all the emptying commercial properties, looking through the windows to the empty floors, and thinking "great place for a new gaming club" .. haha !

Good news - I see that Herve is working on a set of WW2 / Blitzkrieg rules that follow the tradition of ADLG -> BE

Between these 3 sets of rules that (should) use common mechanics with a shifting emphasis from melee to firepower, with increasing command complexity ... should be able to interpolate to house rule together pretty much any period.

This is good !

Where your information come from ?
Rien, sinon une bataille perdue, n'est aussi mélancolique qu'une bataille gagnée.

On the ADLG forum, there is a + button on the lower left - clicking that shows other Herve rulesets, such as Bataille Empire, and also Blitzkrieg
