Charging as a group

Message par RogerGreenwood » mar. 17 août 2021 22:25

A group of units charges. Two units will contact the enemy, but the enemy are spaced a little wider than the chargers. Hence, only one charger can aim at the centre of its target and keep the units in the group all facing the same direction as required for a group move. Which is correct?
1. The group cannot contact both enemy.
2. One unit is aimed at the centre of its target, the other also makes contact, but did not move towards the centre of its target.
3. The charging group aims towards the mid point of its targets. Neither is aiming at the centre of its target unit, but the group is heading towards the centre of the targeted units.

Google translate version in case anybody wants to comment

Wow Google translate is really bad ...

So we are talking about a group charging a wider group of enemies, for example if I understand 2 columns charging 2 enemy lines ? the important thing is your units are grouped at the begining of their turn but they can break this group even having the same order : in our case this is the player's choice.

So when your group is declaring charge you check if each unit is at good range from their repective ennemies, if yes you have 2 choices (if no, only the second choice) :

1- Each unit charge it's opponant : they move separately in direction of their targets (they aim the center of each unit), the group is separated and will no more be a group the next turn (except if the units are separated by 2UD or less) but this turn only 1 order has been needed for making charging the whole group.

2- A principal unit is designated to charge the ennemy front of her, the other one will charge as flank support. The group is still formed for the next turn.

Of course if your group has extra units you can attribute supports to each charging units and so they can form new groups with them ;)

GOOGLE TRANSLATE :

I agree choice 1 is quite sensible. However, for a group move the units must end as a group. If both aim at the centre of their targets they will not be facing the same direction, hence not finish the move as a group. This is our problem!

Ok so your question is "as a group has to start and finish a move grouped" P.19 in the french rule, "can we separate a group while charging ?"
I haven't the answer but I'm not sure a "charge" is a "move" like it is described P.19, it is more about standard moves ...

In my eyes the best answer is : if you doubt just use 2 orders to charge and split your group ... or use solution 2 if you want to keep your group formed : A principal unit is designated to charge the ennemy front of her, the other one will charge as flank support.

Thanks, it seems the original French version of the rules does not clarify this either.
Having enough CP to charge as two groups would always be nice. There are rarely enough CP 🙂!
